YOU SAY IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY...

Today is InstaPundit's second birthday. Happy birthday to the blogosphere's Grand Central Station! Today also happens to be my 33rd.

August has always been a tough month for a birthday. When I was in school, my siblings didn't like my birthday because it meant we would soon head back to the world of teachers and lectures and algebra and all that. Football two-a-days started up in the heat of August, as did cross country. Tough month to do those sorts of things. Historically, August hasn't exactly been the best time to be around. It's always hot. Nixon resigned in August. We nuked Japan--twice--in August. It was a justified act, but nonetheless still a controversial one. And there isn't a single holiday in the entire month of August. July has a great holiday, and so does September. But August has to be content to bask in their glory.

So August may not be everyone's favorite month, and as I get older it's less of a favorite of mine too. But today's my birthday, so we'll probably go out and eat some sushi or something, and I may get a new computer game. Any recommendations?

Well, naturally Civ III if you do not have it.

Happy Birthday, Brian. August is a great month, even for sushi. Just be careful where your oysters come from…

Happy Birthday, Brian! My advice is to stay away from the uni (sea urchin) - taste and texture can best be described as “fish peanut butter”. As far as games go, Rise of Nations is a lot like Civ III but graphically much more pretty and tactically much more difficult.

Happy Birthday Bryan! and keep up the good blogging. I know these last couple of weeks have been tough, with all the blogging on the gay “marriage” issue and the views supporting it from the far side. But keep up the pressure, I’m in your corner dude.

Thanks, all. We ended up heading off to Bertucci’s for pizza and Tuscan chicken wings. I just wasn’t in a sushi mood for some reason, which is unusual for me. Also went to Guitar Center to look at drums and pick up a pair of sticks (I’ve got my eye on a Roland v-drum set.…) Ended up at the book store and bought Crossroads of Twilight, which is book ten of the Wheel of Time series. So now I have a couple thousand pages of fantasy violence and intrigue to distract me from the real world of violence and intrigue. Soooo much better than Harry Potter (and yes, I’ve read all five of those books, and I fail to see what the hype is all about).

Ooh, hope I’m not too late …

Belated happy birthday! Drums sound like a good idea - the gift that keeps on giving to others. I just hope my family members do not consider a gift like that for my youngster on his 6th birthday.

I also have an August birthday (end of the month), and it always seemed like I was a year younger than my childhood peers during the spring and summer. Guess September is the cut-off for determining which grade you start at in school.

V-drums are electronic, so I could strap on a set of headphones and flail away without disturbing the neighborhood. They actually feel pretty close to the real thing, much more so than early electronic drums kits did. Here’s one set I checked out Friday—it looks dorky in the pic, but actually looks and sounds nice in person.
