CHIEF JUSTICE WILLIAM REHNQUIST, R.I.P.

We are without a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court:

Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist died Saturday evening of cancer, ending a remarkable 33-year tenure on the Supreme Court and creating a rare second vacancy on the nation's highest court.

President Bush now has two simmering wars, a national emergency of unprecedented scope and two vacancies on the Supreme Court to fill on his plate. And a domestic opposition that is unhinged.

Pray.

If anyone can handle this, its George W. Bush…

We are without a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court…

On the other hand, we do have Acting Chief Justice John Paul Stevens.

Pleasant dreams…

Uh, thanks for that nightmare.

praying - loud, very loudly.

Utmost respect for him sticking it out till the end.

Rest in Peace.

There are several conservative websites that are bemoaning the timing. That Bush is too weak politically to force a party line vote on a real conservative. (Unlike Roberts) I don’t quite get the reasoning but I’ll respect other’s sense of gloom.

“President Bush now has two simmering wars, a national emergency of unprecedented scope and two vacancies on the Supreme Court to fill on his plate. And a domestic opposition that is unhinged.”

Courage. As two Wise Men once said,

Elwood: “It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.”

Jake: “Hit it.”

“Pray” you say?

Screw that; I’m loading up on shells, keeping a wary eye, and making sure my Costco account has plenty of room for emergency bulk purchases.

Considering how whacked out the President’s opponents are, this country has a too good chance of going nuts by Thanksgiving Day.

A good man. RIP.

As to the political situation…let’s see, the barking moonbats have their teeth firmly clamped onto the leg of the DLC, patriotic dems are walking on their party (thanks to Mama Sheehan), the donk players jockeying for ‘08 are busy elbowing and knifing each other…damn, it doesn’t get any better than this.

The GOP Senate Seven are now probably sweating bullets. The party base is still hanging together , the MSM’s credibility rating is in the crapper and the ‘06 elections are around the corner.

In the donk ranks I see confusion and doubt, I smell their fear, and in their voices I hear panic.

I can’t wait.

This is going to be a very interesting few months.

Trading O’Conner for Roberts appears to be a marginal conservative victory. Replacing Rehnquist with anything less than a strict constructionist in the Thomas-Scalia-Rehnquist mold will be flat out loss.

In other words, the net effect is that if Bush can’t get a solid (I mean SOLID, rock-ribbed, eats nails for breakfast) conservative on the court to replace Rehnquist the court will have moved yet FARTHER to the left.

oh dear.

after reading the latest david brooks article.

I think the dems are trying to turn the “inept” Bush admin (2005) into the republican’s own version of the Carter admin of the late 70s

Thanks for your comments. Wanted to share a perspective as well regarding Rehnquist’s death and what that might mean for all of us. GT http://www.brokenmasterpieces.com/archives/001736.html
