Democrats Bring Out Their Dead
There is no tactic too low for today’s Democrats. None. At. All.
Today’s memorial service for civil rights activist Coretta Scott King — billed as a “celebration” of her life — turned suddenly political as one former president took a swipe at the current president, who was also lashed by an outspoken black pastor! The outspoken Rev. Joseph Lowery, co-founder of Southern Christian Leadership Conference, ripped into President Bush during his short speech, ostensibly about the wife of Martin Luther King Jr.
“She extended Martin’s message against poverty, racism and war. She deplored the terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar. We know now that there were no weapons of mass destruction over there,” Lowery said.
The mostly black crowd applauded, then rose to its feet and cheered in a two-minute-long standing ovation.
A closed-circuit television in the mega-church outside Atlanta showed the president smiling uncomfortably.
“But Coretta knew, and we know,” Lowery continued, “That there are weapons of misdirection right down here,” he said, nodding his head toward the row of presidents past and present. “For war, billions more, but no more for the poor!” The crowd again cheered wildly.
Former President Dhimmi Carter also got into the act, pounding at Bush (but not Nagin or Blanco, of course, because as fellow Democrats they can Do No Wrong) for Katrina relief, for the Iraq war, for the wiretap kerfluffle and for the crime of existing. It’s that last that obviously galls Carter the most.
Democrats, you belong to a disgusting party full of cranks, crooks, gangsters and demagogues. They use solemn occassions like funerals to stage political pep rallies—first, at the Wellstone funeral, then at the Rosa Parks funeral and now as the nation says goodbye to Coretta Scott King. These were all good people, their passing should have been a moment for the nation to reflect on mortality and eternity and what kind of world we may leave behind. But the Democrats have repeatedly turned these occassions into partisan feeding frenzies, and have in the process stolen what might have been important and unifying memories from the nation. And that they have done it repeatedly says that it’s now a party practice. Once might be passed off as an accident, but three times denotes a cultural trend. Add Cindy Sheehan’s shameless flogging of her honorable son’s corpse—and Democrat praise of same—and you have a party that loves death and uses the passing of icons to tawdry political purposes. The Democrats as a party are sliding into an amoral abyss, devoid of reason, allergic to facts, and antithetical to what makes America great.
To Carter, to Revs. Jackson and Sharpton, I would like to say thank you. Thank you all for disabusing the rest of the nation that you and your party retain any soul or capacity toward good will.
