The Real Scandal of Plamegate
I’ve written about the Richard Armitage Plamegate revelationsalready, and how it ought to deflate the Truthout/RawStory/WilsonJohnsonLeopoldCo scandal industry like a bad souffle. But there is one aspect of this I didn’t realize until I saw it buried in New Sisyphus’ (worthwhile) commentary on today’s WaPo editorial (in which the WaPo editorial board says it’s a shame anyone ever took Joe Wilson seriously).
The thing I did not know is this: Armitage, the squishy “realist” who leaked the information, the guy who stood by while Bush took hits and a special prosecutor was called and Joe Wilson mugged for the cameras and a grand jury impanelled and Rove and Cheney grilled and Libby was indicted, even though he had started this whole mess—with the collaboration of his boss who is beginning to look like a real conniver and I’m glad Bush fired him—Armitage is still working, and advising a Presidential candidate. Take it away, New Sisyphus:Armitage whistled while conservative careers and lives were ruined. Armitage is now Senator McCain’s leading foreign policy advisor. Remember that.Oh, I will.
Will you remember, Sparkle?
