Brigade Parade
Lileks cracked me up with his review of the NYT's hissyfit about the "violent" Super Bowl ads. It's near the end of this Bleat:
I didn’t see the ads in question, but an ad in which an astronaut is struck by a meteor does not seem to reflect the toll of war; menacing hitchhikers do not reflect the toll of war, unless the feared Rutger Hauer Brigades have finally been unleashed by our godless foe.The original Hitcher was really freakin' scary, so that's not a nice thought.
That line also reminded me of one of my all-time favorite Lileks lines, one that I have brought up again and again from my fortified blue-state perch: the Charlie Daniels Shock Brigades.
