Iran has a Jewish MP?
(Channeling Johnny Carson): I did not know that. I knew that in Iran, a Christian or a Jew could hold office, but a Bahai could not. I did not know that meant that a Jew actually held elective office in the Iranian Parliament. (Scroll down.) Guy's name is Maurice.
I believe he is also the only member of Iran's Majlis named Maurice.
Bad news is that he's a Khomeinist stooge:
Maurice Motamed also told IRNA that the Jews will participate in demonstrations and rallies held on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution alongside people from other walks of life.More on Maurice, who is a bit of a clotheshorse, in this 2003 article from NRO.
He pointed out that Jews actively took part in the 1980-88 Iraq-imposed war and were also martyred in that war.
“The late Imam Khomeini paid attention to the need of protecting the rights of religious minorities, especially the Jews,“ he said.
Motamed pointed out that the world arrogant powers are carrying out propaganda by saying that religious minorities are not free in Iran.
