Merle Haggard's Breaking my Heart

This sounds like a great concert, except for this:

At one point, Haggard detected a bit of smarm in his voice as he bantered with the crowd. ``Did that sound like O'Reilly?'' he asked the band.

``That was my impression of the worst man in the world,'' Haggard told the crowd to enthusiastic applause. ``Bill O'Reilly.''

Worst man in the world? Is Merle some sort of Olbermann fan? O'Reilly's not my favorite, but that's just a weird shot to take out of the blue like that.

Unlike the Dixie Chicks, Merle has talent and to spare, and I'll still turn up the radio any time he comes on--even if he does make Bush jokes in his concerts. But I'd rather he didn't.

Bill O’Reilly isn’t the worst man in the world, but he is pretty smarmy.

Wasn’t it Buckley who observed that you could spell his name “billow wryly”?

Moonbattery from Haggard is surprising, especially in light of his duet with Gretchen Wilson on “Politically Uncorrect.”
