Country Singer In Iraq

Michelle reports that Chely Wright is singing "Bumper of my SUV" to the troops in Iraq. Good for her. The music industry skews left, even country music. But regardless of Wright's politics, it's great of her to go over there and cheer the troops up.

This gives me a chance to recall one of my favorite country singer's trips to Iraq: Dwight Yoakam. I saw some footage of his trip-- I think it was on the Tonight Show. He was pretty much just standing up there pretty much by himself playing an acoustic guitar in a hangar and singing "A Thousand Miles From Nowhere", which I imagine captured the mood of the troops pretty well.

I always liked ol' Dwight. Here's another reason.

PS I wonder if he'll perform this version anytime soon?
