Politically, Fred Dalton Thompson is a smart man. He's been doing little chats on the Paul Harvey news show. Paul Freakin' Harvey. Awesome. You don't get more down to earth red-state goodness than guest hosting for Paul Harvey. And his timing is impeccable. Just as people are starting to doubt McCain, Romney, and Rudy, and after they've bloodied each other up nicely, here comes Thompson in the wings.

Obviously, a tactically smart politician is important. But what does he actually have to say? Go listen to this clip from his Paul Harvey spot. It'll make your day. It's like a little mini-jolt of 300 to get your afternoon off right.

It's historically savvy, well-delivered, and tough. Color me interested.
