A Canticle For Wolfowitz
I haven't covered the Wolfowitz smear much lately, but he's still hanging in there. Anwyn sends along an editorial in, of all places, the Daily Oregonian supporting his tenure:
He asked to recuse himself from personnel decisions involving Riza but was instructed by the bank's ethics committee to personally manage the terms of her transfer. So he did. And because he did, he's now accused of masterminding a sinecure for his girlfriend. They go on to say if World Bank whiners want to challenge Wolfie on his anticorruption agenda, let them do that--because the girlfriend issue isn't an issue.Yet World Bank Ethics Committee Chairman Herman Wijffels sent Wolfowitz a note on Oct. 24, 2005, that said, in part, that Riza "has agreed to be detailed outside the Bank Group and that you withdraw your proposal for recusal. . . . The committee concurs with your view that the matter can be treated as closed."
I know this isn't the sexiest issue out there right now, but what happens to Wolfowitz may actually impact the state of the world a little more than what happens to Rosie O'Donnell.
