CNN Challenges CNN for Most Misleading Headline of the Day
In the post just below we witnessed the very misleading nature of CNN's headline on global terrorism. But now check out this other headline from CNN:
2,000 troops deployed after scores killed in Afghanistan
To me, that gives the impression that NATO and Afghani troops are dropping like flies, and we're now sending in more cannon fodder to meet the same fate. But read the article, and a completely different story emerges: all the "scores killed" were Talibanis.
In western Afghanistan, U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces battled with Taliban insurgents over three days, leaving at least 136 suspected militants dead, a coalition statement said Monday.
...
...adding that a U.S. soldier also was killed in the engagement.
The coalition statement said there were no reports of civilians wounded in the two battles.
So 136 Talibani fighters were killed, with no collateral damage, and the loss of only a single US soldier. Shouldn't the headline be a leetle more specific about which side is suffering the casualties?
The US casualty was Staff Sgt. Michael D. Thomas, 34, of Seffner, Florida. RIP.
