And on the education front . . .

. . . Woody offers yet another good reason for homeschooling.

Yesterday I tried to help a customer find test a prep book for her third grader. We had some, of course - we have them for grades K-12 - but not the specific one she was looking for, because, you know, you don't want your third grader getting insufficient preperation for those brutal tests.

Have things changed that drastically since I was a kid? In third grade, aren't kids still pre-occupied with finding out why paste tastes so good?

Makes me think we're only a few years away from instituting Japanese-style cram schools. "No summer camp for you, Billy! You've got to get drilled in subtraction! And proper nouns! And paste eating! Bwaaaaahahahahahaaaaaaa!"

T’anks for the shout-out, Bro!

Unfortunately this seems to be the trend. My daughter only has about 25 minutes to eat her lunch and play as a 4th grader. And let’s not forget the battery of IOWA tests she took for NCLB. I didn’t go and buy her a book for them though. We make sure her homework is done and she gets good grades. She did pretty well on the tests too. Much to her teacher’s relief I’m sure.
