Bad Blog Ads
I'm glad to see sites I like getting advertising. But right now I'm going to jump down the throat of Townhall sponsor RedOrbit, who are a bunch of brand-destroying pixel pirates. They contrived a popup ad that doesn't just pop, it expands to such a screen-filling height that the "close" and "minimize" buttons are placed out of reach even as it completely obscures the content I went to Townhall to see. I have to mouse down to the taskbar along the bottom to get rid of it.
So instead of being favorably disposed toward a company that kindly underwrites some of my favorite bloggers, I now associate with RedOrbit--a company I had never heard of before they swarmed my monitor--the following thoughts:
1. They are in the way.
2. How do I get rid of them?
3. Zucchini for brains.
Needless to say I don't stop to read any of their stupid news content and will never link to them.
In other ad news, I find this supremely delicious: the World Bank is underwriting the Malkin Media Empire, advertising on Hot Air through Google Adsense, bragging about how they've tripled the number of girls in schools in Bangladesh.
Three reasons that's funny? 1. They just dishonored themselves by firing the guy yesterday who deserves much of the credit for those successes, 2. World Bank-supporting liberals usually aren't Hot Air fans, and vice versa, and 3. I've recently used Hot Air as a platform to bash the World Bank as a bunch of preening, skullduggerous, corrupt backstabbers.
I suppose I can see the logic of their wanting to get their message to a hostile audience. But I love the fact that they're paying to do it.
