Al Qaeda writes poetry in Guantanamo; Fancy Lawyer Publishes Anthology (w/Video)
I'm just laughing and shaking my head at this one. In fact, I'm going to bang it against the wall now. (THUMP). One of the white-shoe lawyers that's representing Al-Qaeda in Gitmo for free has brought out an anthology of their self-righteous, green-green-grass of home, Bush-bashing poetry. Hilarious, pathetic, nausea-inducing WSJ video after the jump. Plus more good stuff.
(THUMP)
Now they mention that this Mr. Falkoff is a lawyer representing some of the Gitmo detainees, including Al Jazeera cameraman Sami al Haj. But the rest of the story here is that he is a pro-bono lawyer who, when he took the case, was with the well-regarded law firm Covington and Burling.
Those of you who are regular readers know this is a huge hot-button with me. Please go read the See-Dub rant on this subject, if you haven't already. I'll be here, by the wall. (THUMP)
As I suggested would be a natural consequence of defending Al-Qaeda, Prof. Falkoff's work on behalf of America's enemies has gotten him a law professor position. It's also netted him a "pro-bono lawyer of the year" award from his firm. Which is not surprising; Covington's award-winning pro-bono program is a retchworthy stew of liberal nostrums including a defense of partial birth abortion, a defense of illegal immigrant drug dealers, and an attack on "don't ask, don't tell".
With all those important causes, they must have just forgotten to mention the part where they were offering to defend, oh, say, American servicemen accused of crimes.
(THUMP)
Fun fact: As you might see at my link above, many of the pro-bono Gitmo law firms either weren't pro bono at all (eg Shearman and Sterling, which received money from Kuwait to defend the detainees) or had Middle Eastern states or figureheads for major clients ( Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr is defending a member of the Saudi government, Prince Mohammed al Faisal, from a Trillion-with-a-T dollar lawsuit brought by the 9-11 families against the Saudi government. ). C&B is no exception: they also represent the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and also represented Eritrea against Ethiopia!
THUMP!
