Soros-funded poll of illegal immigrants reveals: they would comply with new US immigration law
Not the current ones, mind you. But these new ones? Oh, those ones, absolutely.
Except for 25% who admit they'd blow off the Z Visa if it requires them to return to their home country. (Note that these are only Latin Americans being interviewed; I expect that percentage would be higher if you counted people from the other hemisphere.) Not just the Z Visa, but green cards too:
The bill also has a touchback requirement for those seeking a legal permanent resident visa, or green card. If their return to the U.S. were guaranteed, 85% would return home for a brief period; if it were not, only 35% would do so.Why would anyone do so? It's not like they're exactly living in fear of INS raids while they're here if they keep out of trouble (or often, as Patterico shows again and again, even if they do get in trouble). With de facto sanctuary cities and an enforcement policy that (rightly) targets repeat criminals first, most illegal immigrants who keep their nose clean can stay out of the INS's clutches. With no effective stick being swung, why would anyone take a bite out of this inconvenient, expensive carrot?
Penraker has a good look at the study's backers.
