Me no understand

I'm not back yet; I just wandered near a computer for the first time in days and I'm wondering....

Lindsey Lohan's cocaine-addled driving is a ridiculous non-story, not worthy of the ink the mainstream press is bleeding on her. Yet...

Michael Vick's dogfighting ring or whatever he was up to is legitimate news that deserves our attention.

Why is that, exactly?

I mean,

Professional Athlete Leads Reprehensible Life
is almost as big a shock headline as
Hollywood Tramp Abuses Nose Candy
Makes "Poor Decisions", Exhibits Low Moral Standards
Which is in turn almost as big a shock headline as, say, "Palestinian Factions Murder Each Other; Blame Israel", or "Wall Street Journal Insults Republican Base On Immigration Issue".

Lohan primarily hurt herself. Potential harm to others, but no actual harm.

Vicks actually tortured innocent, feeling creatures for years and made money off of doing it.

Surely you see the difference?

Sorry, that last was me.

Argh—then it never published. Here’s what I thought I had posted:

Yes, I agree that what Vick did was worse.

But is it more newsworthy? Animal abuse like that is awful but, sadly, not uncommon. The blogs and Fox News don’t go nuts every time a no-name is busted with a dog-fighting ring.

I think we should be grateful every time celebrities are neglected by the media.
