Norway Sliding into Second-Rate Socialism?
Norway is often held up as a sterling example of the merits of compassionate socialism. But all is not well in The Land of Taxenmebuttoff:
Norway's so-called "cradle-to-grave" social security system seems to be disappearing, despite the country's vast oil wealth. Complaints over health care and overcrowded schools have long been an issue, and now alarming statistics are emerging over deficient care for the elderly. It sounds like some significant cracks are starting to appear in the system, even with oil revenues shoring up the budget. It will be interesting to see if they can solve these problems without dipping deeper into their oil revenues. I'm betting that they dip deeper, AND the problems get worse.
It's the nature of the beast.
