A Satisfied Mind: RIP Porter Wagoner
It's been a tough year for country music. Porter Wagoner died today.
My parents tell me I was a huge fan of his TV show when I was about two or three years old. I'm not sure why, but I do admire his fashion sense.
Porter had a resurgence of his career in the past few years after a long period of obscurity and dependence on pills. He turned his life around and then Marty Stuart and some other folks helped rehabilitate him in Nashville's eyes and let him record his last album, "Wagonmaster". And so he went out a star, with Dolly Parton serenading him on his deathbed. Good for him. That's a by-gum manly way to go out, Dolly Parton coming around to sing you to sleep. I could hope for so much.
I heard about this from Florida Cracker, who has much more.

I grew up in the city where we were taught to laugh at "hillbilly music." But I often watched Porter Wagoner's show - the excellence of his music, even in a style I didn't care for, was obvious.
