Prepare to Posterize! (UPDATE)

Michelle pointed out something kinda funny the other day from HuffPo...Democratic ad exec Rich Silverstein brainstorming about new posters for the GOP. The results were not particularly inspiring, since they consisted of big block letters with GOP "names", "slogans", and "events". Apparently the advertising wizards who came up with that one just depended upon the pure talismanic evil power of the Republican nomenclature--I know Dick Cheney's name is a killing word, but, well, Tom Ridge?

Anyway, Michelle had the bright idea of a counter-contest among her photoshop-capable readers to "posterize" the Democrats. I thought I'd give it a try, although I'm not "officially" entering the contest because A: I was a guest blogger for MM, so ought to be disqualified, and B: I don't own Photoshop and had to make do with Power Point. I can't make it look like I'd envisioned it, but I think the idea is clear. I've borrowed a bit from the Silverstein idea in that this is sort of a tryptich--three posters on Democrat Social, Economic, and Defense policy. I've added color and punchlines.

Here are the three thumbnails; if I knew how I would have them clickable directly to the full-sized versions on Flickr. As it is I'll just stick the links below the pictures.

Social Agenda

Economic Agenda

Defense Agenda (look closely at that one!)

Contest details at the first link. Have fun!

UPDATE: Yee-haw! Honorable mention! (scroll to the end).

By the way--when I uploaded my bitmaps to Flickr they were smooth and not jagged-looking. But now that they're on there, even the large-size pictures have become all grainy--so much so that some of the smaller typefaces can't even be read. Is there any way to avoid that, or is it just the price you pay for free picture hosting?

PS for commenter AdamtheMad: Thanks, but I have heard of these free image-editing programs. If I were to download those my productivity would drop to zero minus. Get thee behind me!

It’s easy to make them clickable. Example using picture #1 -

(with XHTML, you do need to have the alt and the closing slash in the img tag)

DAH!!! Let’s do that again (didn’t realize the auto-html would kill the first attempt):

<a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2057404965&size=o”><img src=”http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2171/2057404965_e74b85eeee.jpg” alt=”” /></a>

Those are great! “Cr**py blashphemous politicized art!” “1. Cut; 2. Run.” “Iranian nukes? Whatever, dude.”

LOL!

Forget Photoshop and PowerPoint (god, I hate that bloaded POS.)

Just download Paint.net or the GIMP editor. Both are free and they’re close enough to Photoshop for these kinds of contests.

Palomino! Ha! I didn’t see that one at first glance. Nice work See-Dubya.

Since you’re talking about bitmaps (which normally have a .bmp extension) and what’s on Flickr is jpegs (.jpg), it’s a possibility that is the price you’re paying for free image hosting. I’d have to see the originals to be sure.

Say, didn’t Bryan leave you any space on the server for images?
