Talk me off of this ledge (UPDATE: Will Huck be dropping out tomorrow ?)
So the California director for teh Ferd! campaign wrote a nice note to all the Cali Fredheads, including me, this afternoon. It was well-written and serious, and she sounds like someone who (like me) was all into Fred the Idea Man. Now let me excerpt a couple paragraphs for you here, emphasis mine:
Judging from the responses I've received from so many of you, you, like many of us who were with the Thompson campaign, are conservatives without an active candidate at this point. Fred remains our candidate. Many of us simply cannot, on principle, support any of the other candidates running. Many of you have told me you will stay home and not vote in the primary. Others of you have said you will vote for Fred, whether he is running or not, hoping for a brokered convention where Fred may be the one person upon which folks can agree. She goes on to quote from Reagan's Time For Choosing speech, which gives me goosebumps.
Fred Thompson has not endorsed any of the candidates. California for Thompson has not endorsed any candidate. We do not seek to instruct voters how to vote as we have no authority to do so. That said, there are pockets of conservatives and federalists in various regions that have banded together to vote for Fred in the primary to hope to win certain congressional districts for Fred (which would send Fred's delegates – who are truly conservative – to the convention to speak a conservative message while shaping the outcome of the convention). These are conservatives that want representation in the GOP and are taking action to make their voices heard and their votes counted. The Reagan coalition is not just a concept of the past, and as Fred said, this is truly a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican party. We are in an interesting place in the history of the Republican party. This is, once again, a time for choosing.
You guys know I'll be perfectly happy with Romney and he was my second choice all along. I think he's a good man and competent, and I do think he's sincerely conservative. But Eeyorepundit's been posting polls all day and, friends, it don't look good for My Man Mitt. It don't look good for the G.O.P.
Ferd's name is still on the ballot. I'm pretty close to saying "Let's go."

"Why not?"
UPDATE: I ain't heard no fat lady! Well, maybe I have. But I'm gonna think about this.
BTW: I've gotten many google hits this week looking for "Vice President Lindsey Graham" or "Lindsey Graham as running mate", that kind of thing. (Here's why they're ending up here.) Apparently the prospect is weighing on people's mind.
AFTERTHOUGHT: Here's Huck still artlessly slamming and smearing Romney. If Huck drops out Monday, as I expect he will, his people go to McCain. But if not, if he stays in, Romney could edge this thing out because of ol' Christian Leader.
Wouldn't that be tragic.
