Just Say No...To Global Warming

Via Tim Blair, we see an adviser to Colombia's VP is appealing to European cocaine users to give up the drug for Gaia:

Ana Maria Caballero, adviser to the vice-president of Columbia, attended the conference to encourage those who take the drug to consider the impact on global warming.

"We have lost two million hectares of tropical rainforest as a result of the slash-and-burn techniques used by the drug growers," she said.

Remember when the term "undocumented Americans" started out as a joke, and then was picked up by politicians like Harry Reid for real? Well, the enviro-friendly coke thing was a joke pretty recently:
“You never once, however, hear (the liberal middle classes) excitedly boast about having got in a load of fair-trade, organic cocaine from a socialist lesbian commune in Colombia. And that’s because there aren’t any.” Indeed, Moran puts it lightly because cocaine is the fruit of a repressive, violent and environmentally destructive process.
And from the Stuff White People Like blog:
It’s almost guaranteed that if some Columbian drug lord can start offering “organic” cocaine, he’ll be the richest guy ever.
Well, as TB notes, cocaine users are a famously socially-conscious and unselfish group. So good luck with that one.
